CÁRDENAS ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA QUAKE

(Washington, DC) -- Following a 4.7-magnitude earthquake that shook the Southern California area Monday morning, U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) released a statement from his Washington, DC office:
“It is my understanding that there was little damage from this quake, which was centered in the desert southeast of Los Angeles,” said Cárdenas. “For that, I am grateful. As Californians, we know the destructive energy that the earth can release in mere seconds. Buildings can tumble, roads can be ripped apart and our friends and families can be hurt, or worse.
“We also know that when tragedy strikes, FEMA and other federal agencies will be there to help pull our communities back together and start the rebuilding process. As the sequester takes effect, this small quake should remind us how important it is that these services are fully funded, so they can be ready to help all Americans whenever and wherever nature strikes.”
